Description:
Ireland, 1729, Copper Halfpenny token of James Maculla, Dublin, 29.0 mm. Just four years after the debacle of William Wood's 1722-24 coinage and Jonathan Swift's Drapier's Letters, a Dublin brazier named James Maculla issued tokens which he sold at 2 Shillings per pound weight, and redeemed at 1 Shilling 8d per pound weight. Swift also opposed these, believing copper tokens should contain their full intrinsic value of metal, but Maculla went ahead with his issues beginning in 1728.

Comment: Out of interest, I have one of these tokens. Are they worth anything or are they merely a "fun-find"?
