| Silver denarius of Vitellius. He was a longtime friend of many emperors including Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius and Nero, although so unpopular as emperor that he lasted only 8 months. The reverse shows a bowl on a tripod with raven and dolphin. The legend reads XVIVIR SACR FAC, abbreviation of Quindecimviri Sacris Faciundis, a group of 15 priests whose duties included interpreting the Sibylline Books for the Senate. |
