HKMAL collection
Pattern Coinage. Ching Dynasty, Emperor Kwang-hsu, Cash, 1897. Brass. BU (Note: This coin was struck in New Jersey as sample by the company which made the machinery for the Sze-Chuan Mint. The dies for this coin, however, were not used because of the erroneous mintmark which reads PAO YUAN (mint marks written in Manchu script on the reverse), indicating the Board of Works Mint in Peking. Trial strikes exist, uniface of both obverse & reverse). Extremely Rare.
