Italian States - 2nd Roman Republic (1848 - 1849), Baiocco, 1849R (1 Year Type). Obverse: Eagle in wreath, standing on fasces. Copper, 29.5mm. Edge: Plain. Mint: Rome. The Roman Republic was a short-lived (4 months) state established on February 8, 1849 when the theocratic Papal States were temporarily overthrown by a democratic revolution. Note: Roman Republic series is seriously undervalued in Krause. Lustrous AU+/UNC, almost fully mint red. Very rare in this condition.
